After a vote, the students decided on an article about the importance of wearing a bike helmet when cycling. This is a worthwhile article that discusses traumatic brain injuries and how wearing a helmet can help protect against such injuries. From personal experience, I strongly support wearing a helmet when biking.

Safety issues are important in everything that we do!

One student, Anne, talked to her classmates about road safety and the responsibility of all road users. She also brought in an article for them related to pedestrian safety that has some relevance for runners. She asked if we would put this on our web site for her and her classmates to further promote safety. While most of us know most of these things, it never hurts to refresh our memory and be sure we are being as safe as possible  when we are out running or walking on the roads.

Today, the Saline County Striders proudly presented a $7,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Saline County. The donation represents the combined proceeds from the Arkansas Runner 2 Mile races held in 2025 and this year's race on June 13, 2026.This donation was made possible because of the incredible support of our sponsors, volunteers, Race Director Chris Hall, and every runner and walker who participated in the race. 2026 is the 28th running of the Arkansas Runner 2 Mile Race and the proceeds will once again benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Saline County.The race start is 7:30am. Race Headquarters, Parking and Packet Pick-UpRace headquarters and parking is located at the Boys and Girls Club of Saline County located at 1810 Citizens Dr, Benton, AR 72015. Packet pick-up is race morning from 6 - 7 am at Race HQ. Please give your self plenty of time to park and pick up your chip race morning. A reminder, race shirts were guaranteed to everyone pre-registered by May 28th, due to the large number of registrations in the last week some participants will not be receiving a shirt when picking up their timing chip. They are encouraged to check back after the race for availability of any unclaimed shirts.A map showing Race Headquarters, the start, and finish areas is shown below.Start LineAll participants will be scored using chip time, which begins when you cross the start line. Please line up according to your expected pace.All paces—including walkers—are welcome, and there is no time limit. If you plan to walk, please line up toward the back to keep the start area flowing smoothly.Thank you for your cooperation!Race CourseA map of the race course is linked below and all turns will be marked with cones and arrows. Please stay to the left on the out and back section.
