Maurice Robinson

Maurice Robinson is a long-time member of the Saline County Striders.   Originally from Northeast Arkansas, he is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering. He and his wife Norma have lived in Benton since 1971.  They have a son and daughter, both of whom are married and live in Saline County.  Maurice is retired from Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation in Little Rock where he held the position of Vice President of Engineering, Construction and Operations.

Maurice began running in 2000 and shortly thereafter joined the Striders. He served as Strider President from 2001 to 2004.

In 2001 he was voted Most Improved Runner in the Arkansas Grand Prix Series and placed second in his age group.
In 2002 he again placed second in his age group in the Grand Prix Series and was also voted Outstanding Club President in Arkansas.
In 2003 he finished in second place in the Seniors (60 and over) category of the Grand Prix Series.
In 2004 he finished in first place in the Seniors category.
He repeated that first place finish in 2005 and 2006, and finished second in the Seniors category in 2007.
In 2010 he received the RRCA Arkansas Al Becken award as Volunteer of the Year.

Subsequent to his selection for the Strider Hall of Fame, he has accomplished the following:

• Completed the 2022 Prairie Spirit Trail 100 Mile Race in a USA age 80 and over record time of 29:03:21
• Completed 162 Miles at A Race for the Ages in 2022 with the most miles of anyone age 80 and over in the history of the race.
• First Place overall in the 2022 Sunset 24 Hour Challenge.for the 4th time in the history of this race.
• Selected as Arkansas RRCA Male Runner of the Year for 2022

Maurice ran his first ultramarathon, the Midnight 50K, in 2001.  He has since completed more than 30 ultramarathons, including seven 100 mile races, most recently the Arkansas Traveller 100 in October 2015 where he became the oldest all time finisher in the 25 year history of the race.  He also ran his age or longer the first four years of the Sunset Challenge 24 Hour Endurance Race in Benton, and was the overall winner of that race in 2014.

In addition to running, Maurice has been a major help in Strider races for many years, mostly behind the scenes, obtaining aid station volunteers, setting up and taking down the aid stations or arranging for people to do it in his absence, and clearing the course after the races.  He has been a major helper in the Sunset 6/12/24 Challenge every year of this race.

Other than running, Maurice’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening and bee keeping.

Maurice’s long time dedication to the Striders, combined with his running history, has made him more than worthy of election to the Saline County Striders Hall of Fame.
